Today is the day Marty McFly and Doc travelled to in "Back to the Future".
Hover boards, video calling, flat screen TV's and self timing trainers were amongst the inventions they saw.
We're not actually that far away from some and others are common place.
They left 1985, not knowing what they were going to expect when they got here.
We are
now in the future, what were you expecting?
I wasn't expecting to have a few pounds extra around my waist. I was skinny as a teenager. As with everybody I let life get in the way, it's easy to do. I'm refitting our bathroom and it was easy to use that as an excuse not to
train.
I better get a few more tiles on or finish some plumbing etc were my excuses. It's nearly finished now and I have lost an excuse. Time to get back in shape, even us coaches and trainers let it slip at times.
I wasn't expecting to lose my Dad before I was 40, back in 1985 he seemed unbreakable. Yet prostate cancer got the better of him 4 years ago.
Prostate cancer is one of the most survivable cancers if you catch it early. Unfortunately, they didn't. His doctor was
incompetent at best; treating an 'infection' with antibiotics for 12 months.
My Dad was too proud to speak to me about his symptoms.
It's really common in men in general, we don't like to show weakness and talk about our
problems.
Apart from Man Flu which is very serious and needs to be felt with immediately via mugs of lemsip, cake, and being waited on by our wives until we get the strength to move ;)
We run our Movember promotion every year to get more men
active. The men that play sport tend to be more active, if you got through school without being in a team, it is unlikely that exercise plays a part in your life.
Obviously there are exceptions, myself being one.
I was expecting to have some kids. It wasn't really on my life plan when I was 12 but I'm sure if anybody had asked me, I would have thought I would have a couple.
We've been approved for adoption, so in the near future we will be parents.
What will your life look like in 30 years?
Our gadgets will definitely be different, communication methods are advancing ferociously.
The way the population is going, we will be more obese and hoping that somebody invents a pill or a gadget that keeps us alive.
Something that can happen to saves us.
Prevention is much better than cure though.
You can take responsibility and start making changes to improve your health.
Team Achieve are here to help, I'll post details of our Movember challenge tomorrow and how to take part.
