Processed meat is being attacked in the media again this week. In some cases rightly so, in others it's boll0cks.
As standard the media have tarnished all processed meats with the same brush.
As always it's down to the methods of processing and the chemicals involved.
The amount you consume is also a major factor.
You don't catch cancer from a
sausage or slice of pepperoni.
Your health is generally poor and your body provides an environment where the illness can thrive. Before you kick off, there are obviously exceptions.
If you have good health, your immune
system works more effectively and can fight against the precursors of cancer etc.
To have good health, you need to provide your body with good quality building blocks.
If you eat good quality nutritious food a majority of the time,
you are providing good quality materials to rebuild your cells.
If you have a crap diet, you provide crap bricks.
It takes some serious skill / genetics to build good stuff out of poor materials.
I love a bacon sandwich and can't see me ever not eating them. I just choose to eat good quality bacon, not the cheap chemical-laden stuff you get at most supermarkets.
We use an organic butcher in Cotesbach. He uses a little sugar and some salt to cure the bacon, that's it.
He doesn't pump it full of water and other chemicals to sell it for more or alter the taste.
It's fantastic and you don't get that white residue and lots of gunk in the pan.
Yes, it's more expensive but it's so worth the
cost.
Don't always believe the sensationalism of the media reports. I think many people do over eat processed meats of poor quality.
And quality is the important point of this. Eat better quality food and as close to it's
natural state a majority of the time and your body will thank you for it.
Moderation is the term banded about and I generally don't like to use it because people are generally sh1t at it. Myself included.
Focus on good quality rather
than quantity.
Have less of the good stuff rather than more of the cheap stuff.
Essentially eat more real food so there's less room for the crap stuff.
