Mindfulness - Smindfulness

Published: Fri, 11/13/15

Being mindful is all the rage at the minute.

You can't walk past a magazine aisle without being told to be mindful or meditate or relax or stand on one leg hugging a tree while stroking a llama.

On closer inspection none of the articles actually give any real advice.

We all know that life happens too quickly, we take too much on and stress has a massive affect on health.

But what can you do about it?

Be mindful, how does that work.  I'm mindful that our kitchen plans haven't ran smoothly his week.  Being aware of it didn't change anything.

Taking action and working late in to the evening to sort out the problems did.  Although because I'm generally calm and don't stress over things that probably helped develop the new plan.

A good place to get started is actually taking some time out for yourself; something that men are generally better at than women.

I go for a run or swim to have some time in my head to clear things through.  One of our members told me last week when she runs, all she can think about is getting home to do the things that she needs to get done.  She feels guilty doing something for herself.

That feeling has to stop.  Everybody needs to make themselves a priority.  If everyone comes before you eventually you will burn out or feel resentment.

Our ABC class that starts this evening is a fantastic place to get going.  It is designed to release tension from your body and mind to set you up for the weekend; whether you are partying or taking time out.

I've attached a map below so you don't get lost on the way.  If you are intending to come can you please confirm your place if you haven't already.

PS I'm not knocking mindfulness, done correctly it helps massively, particularly when eating and preparing for bed.
