Coffee will help you live longer, reduce your risk of Parkinson's disease, diabetes and suicide according to a report in the news today.
I'm sure last week if you watched the Nespresso advert it would be enough to give you cancer.
Next week, coffee will probably be an alternative to the flu jab.
As always health reporting in the
media is never really that great, it often sensationalises the report to sell more papers.
The problem with that is, YOU as somebody who would like to improve their health has a mine field of misleading, misinformation.
So what is the score with coffee?
My advice for coffee is to treat it like the opposite of Nanny McPhee.
"There is something you should understand about the way I work. When you need me but do not want me, then I
must stay. When you want me but no longer need me, then I have to go. It's rather sad, really, but there it is."
That is, if you NEED coffee, you have to have it to get you going, wake you up or supply a boost; you shouldn't have it.
You need to assess factors affecting your energy and make steps to improve it. Sleep and hydration are the most common factors we see for this.
If you WANT coffee but don't NEED it, you enjoy the
taste or the social aspect; have it but try to limit to before 12.00pm.
Coffee after this time will affect your sleep pattern. It is a stimulant, the reason many people NEED it, which increases cortisol production. Use coffee to support the way your body naturally increases this hormone in the
morning.
