Every few months there is report in the media about why you shouldn't exercise in the morning, the dangers of exercising at lunch time or why you get fat if you exercise close to bed.
Some expand and go in to the ideal time of day for yoga, weights, circuits and cardio.
Some have valid points, while others are just click bait with headlines
designed to sucker you in to the website with the hope you'll buy something through their adverts.
Everybody has hormonal fluctuations throughout the day, our circadian rhythm.
This rhythm affects everything from energy levels and appetite through to mood and sweat rates. If you have time and a lifestyle that permits, it 'many' improve your results if you have an optimal hormonal system.
However, that rarely exists in a world where
we have such high levels of stress coupled with such poor nutrition.
Therefore the key to choosing the best time to exercise is finding the time that you can stick to and will do consistently. Consistency with diet and exercise is the most important factor.
The type of exercise doesn't really matter either, particularly if you haven't done anything for a while. Just do something that challenges you a little physically and you can fit in to your week,
every week.
I prefer to get mine out of the way in the morning, at the moment I'm attending our morning bootcamp at 6.30am. If I start my day, I generally find other things to do that are more 'important'.
For strength training I prefer to wait until after lunch, cardio I like to go for a run in the evening, which is easy to avoid if I don't get my head in the game.
Find the thing that you enjoy doing and you will keep doing it. This
morning we played poker at achieve bootcamp, the cards weren't kind to my team - a lot of burpees were performed.
The banter and competition of the session meant that I pushed myself; something that I struggled with due to a 4 day hangover (more on that tomorrow).
Use the next few weeks to try out different types of exercise. That way you're not waiting until the New Year when the whole word takes up activity for a few days. Work out
exactly what you want to do. That way you can start 2016 with a path already for you to start on.
