Why you SHOULD'T make a resolution today

Published: Fri, 01/01/16

Get buff, eat clean, train hard, don't be late, meditate, lose weight, fit into an old pair of jeans, get a new job, be more successful, don't be angry, love more, the list goes on...

All (very vague) common new years resolutions but this year we're suggesting a new approach

Ditch the resolutions!!

Don't make the same old goal that you set last year (and the year before that)...

Choose a goal that excites you and do something about it straight away.

Don't RESOLVE to do something...actually DO something!

THEN...

...enjoy the journey - something we are often told but is easily forgotten -

Darren and I are both bad for this so I have set a goal but this year my vision is MUCH bigger than actually doing the event.

 - I've signed up to the Storm the Castle duathlon in April - - - - - - - -

 - - - - - - I didn't particularly like the look of it last year - I'm not actually sure why I agreed to do it?!

 - - - - - - BUT knowing I've signed up will make sure I get myself out running (not so enjoyable) and more importantly out on my bike which is the bit I DO enjoy - especially when we go out with our friends and stop for a piece of cake and cup of tea on the way round!

Getting my self out running means I will be fitter to do the things I really enjoy; so I won't struggle when we go up mountains, do long walks with the dogs and I won't always be puffing away at the back when we go out on bike rides.

If weight loss is something you want to achieve, focus on a goal that weight loss is a part of rather than the weight loss itself.

  • Maybe an exercise challenge like mine?
  • Or it could be about being more productive at work/home - research shows the fitter we are the more able we are to tackle our day-to-day tasks.
  • Maybe you need some chill time - could your exercise/weight loss plan facilitate that? Exercise doesn't have to be about beasting yourself - especially if your 'stress bucket' is already full to the brim - maybe a meditative walk or class like Achieve ABC is the way for you?
  • Maybe you'd like to more active with your children - combining activity with them means you're getting active and you're all getting quality time together. Your exercise plan doesn't have to eat into your family time if it IS your family time.

Have a think about what you REALLY want - not what you think you should want or what other people expect of you AND get help from somebody to make sure you aren't wasting time.

Of course we're a little biased but we can help with most goals and even help you set them if you're struggling to know what you truly want.

Enjoy 2016, you are in control of how well it goes

Big love
Fran (& Darren)

P.S Darren is on his way back down the mountain now which I'm really relieved about - he was properly suffering with altitude sickness for a few days but he's doing much better now xx
