Opportunity Snacks

Published: Fri, 01/15/16

We took the dogs out for a big walk earlier (about 6 miles), we walked along the canal to Gallagher Retail Park on the A44 Coventry to pick them up some food.

The dogs are allowed in the pet shop and as we were walking around I noticed that Daisy and Poppy were crunching stuff.  Some of the biscuit bags had split and they were clearing up the spillage.

They'd had a big breakfast and didn't require any extra food.

They were simply taking the opportunity to have a tasty treat because it was there.

It's the reason why we don't have treat style snacks foods in at home.  I eat them, I find reasons to come across the 'opportunity' to be presented with the treat.

As a result, this afternoon when I've been on the hunt for a treat (boredom / procrastination snacking) we didn't have any; meaning I had a few crudités and hummus.  A much better option that actually contained some nutrients.

If you are going to be successful in a weight loss battle, you have to plan to be successful.

If you can't control the impulse to have a treat, remove them from the house.  That way at least you have to make a conscious effort to go out and get some.

As you know, we aren't angels and I'm partial to a slice of cake or a biscuit.  So if I want something sweet, I have to put the effort in to getting it rather than stumbling across it in the kitchen.

It reduces the frequency of said treats because I generally haven't got the time to walk around to the shops (another rule I have is that I have to walk to get the treats not drive).

Small 'rules' like these can make a difference, they all add up to form a healthier habit.

Do ou have any rules that help you win?  Share them with us and we'll pass them on.
