It happened again.
I only found out this morning when I was showing our members why I'm not happy at just 10,000 steps. I missed my goal on Saturday by less than 100 steps again.
On Saturday night at 9pm I realised I was still 4000 steps short on my goal, so I put on my shoes and took the dogs for a walk around my neighbourhood. I got home with a few hundred to go and again wrongly assumed I'd do that easily before
bed.
I didn't think about it again until I checked the app this morning.
I felt properly gutted.
Now I'm still over my original 10,000 step goal but I missed my 'smart' watches goal. It increases it every time I hit it, meaning I'm now on 14,500 per day; that's over 7 miles.
I think if I'd decided to stay in on Saturday night and not go out for an extra walk I wouldn't have been so gutted.
If I had
'failed' by 4000 rather than less than 100.
Our members sometimes have similar feelings.
They have a weight to lose goal in their minds and sometimes fall a little short. 1lb can make them doubt their commitment, when if they were 7lbs+ short they wouldn't have an issue.
Most commonly, they focus on weight as a goal and forget about everything else.
A full clothes size means less if there isn't a drop on the
scales. There are lots of factors involved but ultimately the scales are less accurate and the clothes size should be the goal we're aiming for and happy with.
The media and society needs to catch up with that way of thinking.
As long as you are moving forward and working towards your ultimate goal, missing the odd step on the way doesn't really matter.
Don't let the odd set back break your stride, keeping going, you will achieve your
goal. There are many routes to the same goal.
