There are lots of arguments regarding whether you need to wear a helmet when cycling or not.
Chris Boardman says there are much more important aspects to look at first, such as the road infrastructure and attitude of drivers.
Although I agree with him, I also believe that you need to take some personal responsibility for your own safety and cycling without one is a big risk.
Last week, a friend hit a stone in the road
and it led to him flying over his handle bars, fortunately his helmet took most of the impact as his head hit the floor but he still looked like Rocky at the end if his fight with Apollo Creed.
His face was badly swollen and his eye was pretty much closed shut. A trip to A&E meant confirmed no serious damage fortunately.
I once saw a 'doctor' say that a helmet wouldn't do much good if hit by a car. That's not important, hitting your head on the
floor or a kerb from hitting a pothole is more likely.
If you cycle, please wear a helmet; there are some cool looking ones now if fashion is the reason you don't.
