Our kids had their second Kayak lesson
today.
In the boats and boom straight in the water, one session was all it took to build their confidence that they would be ok “bum shuffling” over the edge.
Last night, we went to watch a Judo session and the usual thing happened, A jumped straight in and didn’t bother watching; K watched for the first 30 minutes and decided she’d join in when it was practically too late. She’s up for giving it a go next week though.
We all have different ways of coping with uncertainty. K needs to see how everything works first, we watch YouTube videos of people on holiday at the places we are going, look at photos of the accommodation, floor plans to decide where everyone will sleep in advance and anything else she needs to feel secure.
A gets up horrendously early, has a bit of a kick off before we get there and then just cracks on.
After the
first couple of hours we’re all good.
We are working on different strategies to help anxiety in general, as with everything, consistency is key.
Practicing the strategies when they are not needed is something we need to focus on.
Find what works for you and keep doing it.
