I got a stripe added to my belt at jiu jitsu
last night.
It’s a sign that I’m gradually understanding more about the skill and implementing more of that skill when rolling / sparring.
For me, jiu jitsu isn’t about the stripes and grades; it’s more about having some time with my friends, being active and getting some rraaahhh out.
The fact that I’m progressing and having that recognised is a really appreciated bonus though.
We all
like to know that we are moving forward in the things we are working towards. Be it a faster Park Run or smaller jeans size.
What’s important in the health and fitness world is to have multiple factors for progression.
If weight is the only thing you are tracking, both lost on the scales and lifted on the bar, you are missing out on a lot of information.
For example, the weight on the scales might not
move but your clothes could feel looser and your energy could be through the roof. Something as simple as being hydrated can have a massive affect on both of those and will make the scales seem heavier.
Checking your circumferences when following a weight loss plan should be a must.
The same, tracking your calories without paying attention to the quality or type of foods you’re eating will affect how quickly you achieve results.
If you need some help in knowing what to track to help you achieve your goals, let me know.
