Missing two makes it harder.
Missing three affects the habit.
Never miss four it feels like starting again.
When you’re building a new habit in to your life, consistency is key.
Doing a little something every day that has a positive outcome toward your longer term goal.
Let’s take going in the cold bath as an example.
Fran has been really consistent over the past three months of getting in to our cold bath. She’s actually more regular than me, although we total about the same amount of time.
She’s found it has helped with her peri-menopause symptoms, isn’t as anxious and feels great afterwards.
She normally gets in first thing in the morning while the
kids have a bit of screen time. This week, we’ve had some really broken sleep and have felt really tired.
That has led to the mornings being busier and us feeling rushed.
Sleep deprivation coupled with a reasonable excuse meant that it was easy to say no to having a cold dip on Monday.
The same happened on Tuesday and again on Wednesday.
We did actually have less time this morning but I forced us to get in
as I knew the consequences of missing 4 in a row.
The longer you miss, the less consistent you are, the more likely you will be to simply quit and say it doesn’t work for you.
I know from experience, I’m struggling to get back in to journaling. I know it helps calm my brain and I achieve more each day, week, month and quarter.
I’ll commit to starting again tomorrow.
What habit would
improve how your life works, how many days have you managed, what would happened if you were consistent?
Start now and try not to miss more than a day.
