We’ve just finished watching “Paddy & Chris Road Tripping” on BBC iPlayer.
It follows them across three episodes travelling across Europe to explore methods in staying youthful, that’s not what this message is about though.
In the final episode, they’re in Switzerland and do a bike ride up a big hill with Fabian Cancellara, one of Fran’s
favourite riders from Le Tour de France.
When discussing the ride afterwards, Chris praised Paddy on his fitness and admitted that he was just waiting for Paddy to stop so he could.
Old man stubbornness kept Chris going; I know I’ve done exactly that on hilly rides. The main problem I had was my training partner back then was a former semi-pro cyclist 🤦♂️
He did stop on a hill once in Snowdonia but it
was a physics problem rather than a fitness one, it was a 20%+ hill going around a 120°+ corner.
The point I’m making is being consistent in your health and fitness endeavours is much easier if you’re doing it with someone else; especially if it is difficult.
My friend didn’t want to get in the lake this morning, she did because she didn’t want to let me down. It ended up being a great swim with constant chatter on the way round as
always.
One of my clients teams take in different dishes for lunch time to keep them all on track with their nutrition plans.
We went over to Bear Gryll’s Adventure at the NEC yesterday and had a great time climbing and doing archery. K did a lot more climbing than we thought she would because we were all there together and having fun.
If you are thinking about trying a new activity and are a little nervous
about trying on your own, ask around your friends. You may be surprised that one of them wanted to try to but were to scared to ask.
If you want to try something physical and aren’t sure where to start, let me know and I should be able to point you in right direction.
