I went to a gym to train this afternoon for the first time since the kids moved in. Most of my “gym” type training is on my patio doing a strength circuit with my mate and the occasional proper weights session in the garage.
I was there to help a friend work on some rehab exercises for her knee and make sure she was using the equipment correctly.
We did a bit of cardio, some functional type stuff, some dumbbell work and finished the session with a sauna and steam room.
We got talking about the importance of just having a chill. Something I rarely give myself time to do, I get time away from the family and work for myself but I always choose activities like a hike or going to jiu jitsu.
Although, recently I have took some time in the evening to play the PS4
but again it’s with the purpose of completing something rather than just chilling.
I rushed back from the gym to get back for Strictly, it’s something we do as a family every week to be entertained and laugh together. Pete’s pink leather trousers provided that in buckets.
With increasingly busy lives and technology that keeps us connected to work 24/7, we need to take time to simply be. A time to reflect what is going on in
your head and assess if that is what makes you happy or content.
A walk in the countryside or simply browsing a magazine with a cup of tea could change your whole experience of the day.
Find something you can fit in to your routine, that just gives you space. I know a sauna isn’t for me, I prefer the cold bath.
