My godson had read about the benefits of ice baths and wanted to give it a try. Last Friday, he came over and had a quick dip in ours, he did well. He listened to what I said and relaxed in to it.
As a result, I sent home with our original one. We upgraded in the summer to have one with a chiller as our garden gets too hot and we couldn’t get the
temperature low enough to benefit my joints.
He had been adding 10s on each morning to build up to 3 minutes, that’s the length of time most of the research has been done for and at a temperature of 8-12°C.
He’s feeling great and noticing the mental health benefits of cold dipping as much as the physical benefits, his Dad has even got in on the action.
This morning, I phoned his Dad to tell him to ignore that
advice, the temperature of ours has dropped to 4°C, that really is too cold for him to be trying to build up to 3 minutes in his first week. He just needs to get in and do a little longer than feels comfortable, which this morning was around 60s.
No advice you receive or I write, is the only way. It needs to adapt to you and your environment. That’s the benefit of having a coach, they can plan things for you specifically and change them immediately if
necessary.
I remember our members telling me about the difficulties of eating 100% clean or getting the correct amounts of fluids in. I thought that they weren’t trying or just didn’t want to put the effort in.
Then our kids moved in 😂
Oh, how quickly I had to eat my words and adapt to our new environment.
Going 100% wasn’t the most important thing to do, finding a way to get some
fresh fruit and vegetables in and taste a drink while it was still warm were our priorities.
As we get older and our family dynamic changes it’s important to roll with the punches and do the best you can. You can make some things non negotiable to ensure you’re heading in the right direction, just have a level of flexibility in your plan.
If you need help with that, let me know.
