Yesterday, I got a call from the hospital to say they had a cancellation slot and could remove my basal cell carcinoma this morning.
Surprisingly, I was a little nervous it being so sudden and was thinking of all of the reasons it would be better to wait. I said yes and we moved our day around to facilitate.
A lot of my coaches over
the years have advised the “say yes and work out the details later” strategy and I must admit, it generally works out.
I met the surgeon and he explained exactly what was going to happen.
I lay down while he got to work with the scalpel, I obviously didn’t fight back 😉
He’s pleased with how it went and thinks any further interventions will be non-surgical.
I need to keep my face
upright for a few days to keep the swelling down and give my cheek the best chance of healing well.
I didn’t get chance to see the stitches before he put the dressing on but I’m going to give my students a chance to make up a story of how I got the scar; I’m sure a knife fight and being a villain in a former life will be amongst them.
This is another reminder that if something isn’t “right” in or on your body, get a second opinion and
listen to Fran 😂
