We’ve been experiencing some great weather over the past 10 or so days. I love this time of year when we’ve got bright blue skies without too much heat.
On Sunday, I did the Coventry Way with a couple of friends. We started at 5.15am in the dark at 3°C and watched the sun rise on route and finished at 6.45pm watching the sun set.
I don’t think there was a cloud in the sky all day. Which for me, meant it became relentless, I had a cap on and my factor 50 cream, taking extra care since the face thing earlier this year.
I hadn’t done enough training for such a long event and the heat punished my lack of preparation.
For the first time in years, the ground wasn’t flooded, which was nice but also hurt my feet in a different way.
4
days later and my legs are still a little jaded, my feet feel tired but the pain and blisters are sorted now. I’ve still done my circuit sessions with my friend to keep consistency, even though I knew my intensity was going to be lower.
As I always say - consistency is key.
On Monday, I thought about cancelling my training sessions with my friend. I’m trying to set a good example and messaged to arrange the time instead.
He was thinking of cancelling but my message got to him first.
He was going to cancel because he had a boozy lunch on Sunday and felt a bit hungover, I won the top trumps of excuses and chose not to so he had to train.
We’re both busy over the weekend, so had to do 3 days straight to hit our target.
Again, not all training sessions have to be full blast. Going through the
movements and keeping your word to yourself that you are committed is worth it.
How many times do you cancel things for yourself because you’re putting others first? You are worth your own time, maybe it’s time for you to show it.
If you’re not sure where to start, we can help with that.
