I’m reading a book with A by Bear Grylls, the TV adventurer, Chief Scout and former SAS bloke.
It’s sort of a self help guide for the young, guiding the reader through some lessons he has learned via experience in his life and adventures.
Tonight’s lesson was about being prepared.
At this time of year, we all dive
head first in to new diets and fitness plans. Some of us, may have picked up a copy of men’s health and thought about giving the workout Chris Hemsworth does a try.
Others have gone for Dry January or Veganuary.
All are options that will get you a result.
However, preparing your cupboards, fridge and more importantly family for a plant-based diet over the past month would give completing the month a
greater chance.
The same with reducing booze, planning what you will do on a night out etc. There are so many good non-alcoholic beers out there now, although one of my local pubs actively steered me away from them at the weekend. I suspect, they might not have been in date.
And I’m sure Chris Hemsworth didn’t start with the workout in the magazine, he has been training his whole life. Building his way up to the type
of lifts etc that get him in shape to play the God of Thunder.
I’m somewhere in the middle of diving in and planning every detail, it depends on what my task or goal is and who is involved.
Something for myself, I tend to dive in and work out the details as I go.
If I’m doping an event with other people and there’s an element of danger, I plan everything possible and then over carry equipment just in case.
We need to find what works for us in each of our goals / tasks /challenges; which is ultimately what being prepared is.
Physically, I try to keep myself in reasonably good shape, so if I’m offered the opportunity to try something, I can. I encourage my students to do the same.
Mentally, we all have differing challenges daily. Having a tool kit of things that help you deal with stresses, anxiety, excitement or
uncertainty helps when things happen from the side lines.
Dive in but work on your plan as soon as you can to ensure success.
We can help with that.
