Train hard, fight easy.
That was what we used to be told back in the competition days.
It translates well in to every aspect of life too.
Not that you have to train in combat sports to make life easier, although if everyone trained in martial arts I think the world would be a more peaceful place.
It essentially meant to do the hard stuff straight away, not skip the sessions where you knew it was going to be a beasting. By being hyper prepared on a fitness and conditioning front, the stepping on the mats bit was just a part of the process.
I’ve written many times about the need to do strength training as we get older, everything is easier the stronger you get. The unfortunate part of strength training, is that it takes a while to
actually see the benefits. And you don’t get the same sweaty feeling you get from cardio, giving the impression you have achieved more.
You don’t need a gym membership to get started with strength training, simple body weight training at home can get you amazing results.
Doing hard stuff isn’t restricted to the body either, getting used to having difficult conversations by not putting them off actually makes you realise they
aren’t that difficult or uncomfortable. The difficult part is starting.
The more you do, the easier it becomes.
I’m a master of procrastination, it’s something I’m working on. Doing my journal and having a set list of things to do to class the day as a success helps me massively.
What are you putting off?
