“I knew it, you should of went for a second opinion straight away”, the not so subtle statement from Fran yesterday when I told her the result of a private dermatology appointment.
I’ve had a dry patch on my cheek for about four years now, I went to our GP and he said it was nothing to worry about.
About a year ago, it scabbed over and
didn’t really heal since. I blamed getting hit in the face and my cheek getting roughed up during martial arts training.
It wasn’t any better when I had a break during holidays etc.
Speaking with one of my clients about a skin issue they were having, they booked in for a private consult at the Nuffield in Leamington and suggested I did the same.
The result, I have a basal cell carcinoma. The original
treatment would have been cryotherapy, getting it zapped with some liquid nitrogen, I actually had that yesterday on some other skin issues on my back.
However, because I left it so long I have to have some surgery to have the area sliced off.
So with the basics in mind, the first one will now be, if you are unsure about something happening in or on your body, seek professional help. If you feel fobbed off or not listened too much /
understood, seek a second opinion.
If you need any specific help regarding an injury, chronic pain, health, fitness or nutrition, we can help with that.
