On Thursday, our friend Terry invited us all to try fishing.
Fran and K, joined his wife for a lake swim first while me and A got cracking.
I haven’t done any fishing for close to 40 years on the bank of the canal by the Jolly Colliers Pub, I was a little too hype back then and didn’t really have the skill set or attention span to
enjoy it.
I was worried, A would be exactly the same.
Terry was a great teacher though and had a kit set up and ready for the kids, one without a hook on to get used to casting out with minimal risk for anyone close by 😳
A really paid attention and picked it up really quickly. Straight on to learn how to put bait on the hook, A is really good at picking up insects etc in the garden so he was straight
in.
I was a little anxious about the possibility of not actually catching a fish and A being really disappointed. I couldn’t have been more wrong.
His hook was in the water for less than 30 seconds when he got his first nibble and then managed to reel in a small roach.
His success stayed that way and he caught 11 fish in the 2 hours we were there, he had a few more that managed to get away and keep
the excitement up.
We thought K wouldn’t be up for it but Terry gently encouraged her and a few minutes later she had a selection of fish out of the water.
They’re really excited to go again and I’ve been trying to explain that they had an amazing day with lots of fish but sometimes you might have to wait before you get even a nibble.
The same happens in weight loss. Sometimes you get initial success and the
lbs literally seem to fall off; sometimes you do everything right but everything seems harder or there’s little change.
We need to do the same as with fishing and keep following the process. The stuff that worked 40 years ago still works today, in fishing and weight loss. There is a lot of information and gadgetry out there offering faster results in both fishing and weight loss, following the process and getting the basics nailed will always do better in
the long run.
If you need any help on where to start, let me know.
