In September, we like to get back to basics with our health; it seems a good time to reset with the change of seasons and the kids getting back to their activities.
Over the next few weeks I’ll share principles and tips we use to improve our health and fitness. As I’ve written many times before, the most important aspect of improving your health is to do the
basics well - consistently.
Earlier this year, I tweaked the basics a little due to having some surgery on my face for a basal cell carcinoma.
The first step is to know your body. I ignored a dry patch on my face for way too long and had a worse outcome as a result.
Do a body scan visually and mentally, looking and feeling to see if anything feels / looks different to how you remember. Notice any tender
spots, lumps and bumps etc, make a note of them for future reference.
If you have any concerns, please seek a professional opinion as soon as possible. If you feel like you’ve been fobbed off, get a second opinion.
With health system is continuing to struggle, we have to advocate for ourselves and our families.
The second part of the first step is if your wife, partner, significant other, person who loves you
is asking you to get something checked out, do so with the same urgency.
It’s better to have information earlier than later with all aspects of your health, you can then choose the most suitable plan of action.
A few minutes is all it takes to do a body scan, do it while your waiting for the kettle to boil or the toaster to pop.
