At Jiu Jitsu last night, I felt exhausted.
I joined in situational sparring, the first sparring I’ve done with any intensity for maybe three months due to my face surgery and broken thumb.
Fitness is very specific, sparring fitness highlights that big time because when you’re tired you make more mistakes and face the immediate
consequences.
It was maybe a little too soon for my thumb, read that as, “it was definitely too soon” and had to sit out before the real sparring started.
I felt like sitting out after the first round, I was gassed and hurting. Taking the easy option wouldn’t have built my fitness for sparring in anyway and I would just have been moving the problem to a later date.
The same is true for any type of fitness,
there will be periods when it will feel really uncomfortable. That could be muscle pain, your heart beating through your chest or simple finding the time to fit a session in.
That discomfort and difficulty builds resilience and is a necessary part of the process of improving yourself and working on your goals.
If you’re not sure which areas to push through or how to improve your fitness, we’re here for you.
