There are times when I feel every minute of my age.
There are times when I still feel youthful; youthful in mind that is, I’m sure my body didn’t hurt this much back then 😂
On Sunday, I felt both.
I was assessing at a black belt grading all day, they are very physical days where our students are pushed to their
limits to prove they are worthy of wearing a black belt around their waists.
I’m pleased that I can still do everything on the syllabus and had fun reminiscing with my instructors and some of the older students about how training in the 80’s and 90’s is different to today.
I once questioned as a young 18 year old black belt if I would still be able to kick at the ancient age of 30 😂
I got home feeling pretty
good and had a play on the monkey bars with my kids.
All good so far.
The problem started when I got in to bed and started to read my book. Everything was blurry / hazy in my right eye, my left seemed fine but there were cloudy sections in my right. Our room is dimly lit, so I blinked a few times to see if that would clear it. Didn’t work.
I upped the screen brightness on my kindle. Didn’t
work.
I took my glasses off and everything was better at distance.
Put them back on to read and the same happened.
As I started to consider neurological issues, I remembered “K” had been pretending to be me. I took the glasses off and discovered a big thumb print right in my line of sight.
Rubbed my glasses on the duvet and everything was sorted.
A
really simple to solution to what I was overthinking in to a bigger issue.
I see it every week in my injury clinic, people who are concerned that they might never be able to run, hike or drive again because they had a google of their symptoms or listened to their friend in the pub who went out with someone who knew a physio in the 80’s.
It generally turns out to be a simple overcompensation pattern where their body is out of balance and using
the wrong muscles to do a job due to previous injuries.
Once we correct the pattern, everything eases off and they get back to their normal routine within a session or two.
If you are struggling with an injury, your diet or your fitness routine; don’t overcomplicate it. Take it back to basics and do the simplest thing you can to resolve the problem.
If you need help with that, let us know.
