I’ve been back at Jiu Jitsu for the last couple of weeks, just doing the class and learning part to allow my broken thumb to heal a little more. Although I’ve had over 3 months off due to my face surgery.
Last night, I joined in with the sparring / rolling bit and boy do I feel it today. I did better than I thought I would after so much time off.
One of my training partners is 50kgs heavier than me and is the afore mentioned train. Doing conditioning circuits during my recovery has helped maintain my strength but having a 140kg honey monster sitting on your chest is something you quickly lose the tolerance too.
Fitness really is a case of use it or lose it.
When you’re training for a specific goal / race / target; it’s important to include
stuff that improves your overall health and ability to function well as a human.
Although, I’m not sure how I could have maintained the pressure that Luke produces without lying on the drive and letting Fran drive the car over me 😂
In my injury clinic, I treat lots of runners who have injuries that could have been prevented if they did a strengthen session per week instead of extra miles on the road. To be honest, the same is true for
most sports and activities.
If you are training for a goal and want to ensure you make it to the start line without an injury, get in touch.
