Sometimes you just have to smile and sit at the side of the road

On Sunday, Team Achieve went walking in the beautiful Brecon Beacons and were rewarded with amazing weather.

We hiked up Pen Y Fan and a couple of other peaks close to it.  At times the steepness made our hearts, legs and lungs burn but the drive to reach the top kept everyone going.  When a member of the group struggled, a couple of others would hang back for some banter and encouragement; which was often returned on a different section.

Working as a team meant that everyone completed the route we had set out and felt a great sense of achievement in doing so.  Our next training walk is the 24 mile Yorkshire 3 Peaks, a roughy as the aim is to complete it in under 12 hours.

I'm confident we'll do it and depending on weather conditions on the day, may even push for 10 hours 30 minutes :)  The team work really well together and that improves their performance.

The same is true in our achieve bootcamps, the group are all working toward similar goals.  They encourage each other through the tough sessions and support each other through The Real Food Plan, providing recipes and ideas they have come up with.

As a team they achieve so much more than they would as individuals.

Support is the key and we all need it and appreciate it, sometimes I'm guilty of not verbalising my appreciation  but it is there.

Today I was on a training ride with my mate and just after we went our separate routes to head home, my back tyre popped. And I mean popped, not just a gentle fizzle out but a bang and then it was flat.

The sort of thing a puncture repair kit or spare inner tube can't fix (picture below).

I'm grateful that it happened going up hill rather than down, that meant I wasn't really going that fast and I just pulled over and assessed the situation.

It was a nice morning, so I parked my bike up against a sign and sat down to enjoy the sun.  I called Colin, who had just arrived home from the ride and he came to get me.  If he couldn't have, I would have called a taxi, there was no point in stressing over it, I just had to accept that I needed some help and sit down and wait for it.

Our new members often tell us that they wished they had joined sooner, that they were scared to start but realised that there really was nothing to be afraid of.  Our groups are purposely kept quite small, so we can make sure everybody get some personal attention.

We can help with their worries and fears around food and exercise.  However, they have to be in a position to accept our help, be ready to make the changes necessary, be it gradually or by diving in head first and going for it.

If you have been thinking of joining us but are nervous for any reason, complete the form on -

and we will get back to you for a chat to see if we are the right fit for where you are now.  Some people are, some people aren't, if we are not the right choice for where you are now we will point you in the direction of something / somebody that is; even if that means one of our competitors.

Our next camp starts on Monday, I'm aware it's a Bank Holiday but your body is not and summer is approaching.
