I've just been catching up on the news from this week and read that having more than portions of fruits and vegetables per day has no extra benefit to your health.

Bo!!ocks is all I can say to that.

On top of the fact that most people don't even manage to get anywhere near that amount, this is just the justification all of the non-food eaters need to keep doing what they are doing.  Strangely, if they keep doing hat they will also keep feeling like crap and walk around surviving their lives rather than living them.

The main problem with it is that it has no indication about the size of the person.

I weigh nearly 40kgs heavier than Fran, if we eat the same 5 portions of fruit and vegetables during the day surely one of us will be either flooded with nutrients or malnourished.  What about our friend who weighs close to 150kg, does he only have to eat 5 portions to improve his health?

These figures and stories are designed to pull the wool over our eyes and make people feel better about the fact that they are not taking responsibility for their health.

Last weekend, I said f**k the diet off.  This weekend I have a challenge, try and eat 5 portions of fruit and 10 portions of vegetables per day.  See how much room you have for crap food when you eat real food and your body gets food it was designed to eat.

Make sure you chew properly and actually sit down to enjoy the meals rather than stuffing them in.  Have plenty of water too, this will keep your digestion moving.

If you can do that for 2 weeks, you will notice a big difference in how your body feels and looks too but lets start like the government and aim low.

Sorry about the rangy nature of this email, I will send a chirpy one over the weekend.  I just get annoyed at the reporting of poor advice taken out of context by people looking to sell newspapers.

Have a fruity and veggie weekend,
