Your life could change in an instant.

Life is very precious, we never know what could happen to take it away or change it unrecognisably.  Our human frame is actually pretty fragile and is prone to injury.

On Tuesday we attended a support group for people with Acquired Brain Injuries organised by the local branch of the charity Headway.

We met people who one day were leading their everyday life and the next everything had changed.  Car accidents, assaults, falls of bikes, strokes had all led to brain injuries that changed their lives beyond recognition.

We were invited to the group because Achieve Bootcamp support one of their monthly meetings and the volunteers wanted to show us what happened at the meetings and how they helped their members.

The volunteers do a fantastic job.

The members travel for quite literally hours to visit, it is a time that somebody understands what they are going through and doesn't judge them.  One gentleman we spoke to gets the bus over from Bedworth and it takes him 90minutes each way.

Another lady walks in, a 6-8 mile round trip, because since her injury she has been too anxious to use public transport.

The members told us there is hardly any support for them, the Leamington Spa meeting had to close due to lack of funding.  When their group was threatened with closer they couldn't let that happen and started fund raising.

That's how we got involved, a friend sent us a Christmas card that one of the group designed and everybody else joined in to make them.  They sold them to friends and families to fund their meetings.

We received a card and spoke to our friend about the charity and offered to help.  We'll be more involved with fund raising for them over the coming months and will be helping with an event in August.  I'll let you know more about it soon.

I've written many blog posts about enjoying your life and living it fully and without regret.  Speaking to the members at the group on Tuesday was a big reminder for us both not to get caught up in the minutiae of life.

We never know what is around the corner and focusing on the future can take away enjoyment of the present.  I'm guilty at the minute of trying to cram everything in to my life because hopefully we'll have kids soon.  However, I've been doing this at the detriment of the time I actually spend just 'being' with Fran and enjoying our family time.  I'm going to change this.
