Late night running

We were away from home last night staying in a hotel.  The level of service was amazing and each room is individual as a result of the hotel being an old Manor House.

There was a wedding on in the hotel and Fran was worried that she wouldn't be able to get to sleep.  Her fail safe is listening to Moby on her iPod.

One major issue.  She forgot her iPod, not a problem, we could download it to her phone.

Next major issue, her headphones were plugged in to the iPod.  We decided to go out for a walk and find a place to buy them.

St Albans is a beautiful city and pretty hilly.  It was 9:30pm when we left the hotel, we realised that most shops and supermarkets would be closing at 10:00pm.

So in a DaVinci Code style hunt around the city we Google mapped our way around the local shops and 'metro' style supermarkets.  Time was short meaning we had to run.

At 9:55pm and 2 miles away from our hotel we came across the final shop we could reach before closing, thankfully they had some headphones and My wife lost her panic about being able to sleep.

We decided that as we were already warmed up we may as well run back to the hotel.

What's the point of this blog?

I've written about life being too short recently and some people had taken this to think I meant that it's short so don't bother exercising.  It's far from that.

When you have a level of fitness you can do more things.  It's not necessary to run around a city late at night Robert Langdon style if you pack well; however, it was nice to have a run in the evening and being fitter meant that we made it to the shop in time.

It also means that you can move without pain.

Pick up your kids or grandchildren without worrying that your back will go or when they ask to go on your shoulders that your arms don't really do that.

You can go for a walk around the countryside without feeling worn out for the rest of the day.

This morning, I've been out for a little walk with my niece to see some fish in a pond and feed some ducks.  This involved lots of bending down, squatting to the floor, running races, jumping and bouncing.  Not anything major but we did see a family where the Mum was struggling to get down to feed the ducks because of a bad back.

We have one life and to live it fully and with va va voom, being healthy and having a reasonable level of fitness makes everything easier.

If you want some help and guidance on doing that, we are here to help.
