My first time ...

I've lost my wedding ring.

Ironically by taking it off to not lose it.

Last night I went cycling with one of my coaching clients as we have an event coming up.  As we set off I realised that I hadn't put my helmet on and rushed back in to the house to get it.  I realised that I was still wearing my ring, I don't like wearing it on the bike as I always worry it will fall off.

I took it off and put it in the pocket of my gilet.

When we got back, I put my gilet on, grabbed my stuff and headed home.  Had tea, then walked the dogs around the old golf course by our house.

I didn't notice I hadn't got my ring until this morning, I remembered I put it in my pocket and was met by emptiness when I went to get it.

The pockets are shallow, it could have come out at any point in the evening.  I'm gutted and in a proper mood with myself.  I usually attach the ing to my keys when I'm not wearing it, as I was in a rush I didn't.  It would have taken a couple of seconds longer to put it on my keys rather than just my pocket.

2 seconds and I would still have my wedding ring.  I'm more upset about it than I thought I would be, after all it is only a ring.  I'm not attached to the blessing the ring received at our wedding, it's just that it was MY ring.

My friend Graham put it in perspective when we met to spar this morning when he simply said 'was it your first?'.

I've just go to accept that it's gone and call the insurance company when I get a spare 4 hours or how ever long it takes to go through all the hoops.

Our lives are ridiculously busy, we try to fit too much in, we rush lots of tasks.  If we took the time to slow down a little, we would actually get more done,  2 seconds and I would still have a wedding ring.

In motor racing they say 'slow is smooth, smooth is fast'.

Life is the same, if we do things smoothly, calmly and correctly we don't have to return to do them again at a later date.  Less mistakes happen.

Take some time to assess where you are in your diet and fitness plan and establish if you are rushing around try to fit everything in or if you've got a smooth flow and plan.  The latter leads to greater long term results.

Jumping from diet to diet and fitness fad to fitness fad will not lead to the results that you deserve for the effort you are putting in.

Take a step back and have a look at what could be improved.  Small steps still take you where you are going
