Why you shouldn't LOSE weight

Published: Tue, 06/30/15

Last week I lost my wedding ring.

I couldn't think of anything else but finding it and the good news is it was found :).

My client found it on his lawn.  It must have come out of my pocket as I took my keys out.

Obviously, I was very happy to get it back.  That's what happens when you lose something, you want to find it again and are happy when you do.

Unless it's weight.

Lots of people LOSE weight and then are really disappointed when they find it again.

It's also really common to find some of its friends and gain even more weight than the initial loss.

Stop LOSING weight, simply get rid of it.

When you get rid of something or throw it away, you don't ever focus on that thing again.  It's out of your life, your subconscious mind knows that it's gone.  It doesn't need to seek it out.

I know it's only semantics but it makes a difference.

By getting rid of the weight, you can focus on the next steps and the long term process.  Most dieters I speak to focus on the weight loss and the end of the diet.

There should be no end.  To be successful long term, we need to focus on lifestyle changes that you can do for life not just the weeks or months the diet lasts for.

It doesn't have to be complicated either.

We all know what we need to do - eat less of the stuff we know is unhealthy.  The cakes and crisps, kebabs and pizzas, chips and burgers; essentially the processed stuff.

Then eat more of the stuff we know is healthy.  Vegetables, fruit, water, meat and fish; the stuff without bar codes.

And keep tweaking those two steps until you feel happy with where your results are heading without torturing yourself while eating cardboard boxes or dipping cotton balls in orange juice (I know somebody who did this).

Just focus on the long term ability to follow your plan rather than the short term lose and it will be fine.
