Going down

Published: Thu, 08/13/15

Sorry about the lack of blog posts this week.

At the weekend, we went to North Wales to train some of our Team Achieve Members how to go down quickly and safely.

Down a mountain that is.

They are taking part in a 20 mile race that includes going over the top of Mount Snowdon and I wanted to make sure they were confident on the mountain both going up and running down.

Unless you run in the mountains a lot, you can't really train for it.  Therefore, we focussed on strategies and techniques.

How to place your feet on certain terrains, which bits to walk, which bits to jog, which bits to fall in a semi controlled manner.

How to slow down quickly, unfortunately Abi found a much quicker way which resulted in some emergency first aid and a few stitches in her knee.

Which drink to refuel with, pic below :)

Technique on running makes a massive difference to how much energy is used.

That's the important part.  Most people tell me they can't run because they can't breathe and they get tired to quickly.

Breathing correctly while running is a skill you can learn.

Running more efficiently is a skill you can learn.

These will be covered at our run coaching session this Saturday morning at the War Memorial Park.  If you would like to attend you need to book in before the Friday evening at 8.00pm.
